Dried Blueberries — Vaccinium corymbosum, USA, No Added Sugar

Dried Blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum) — plump, chewy whole dried blueberries sourced from the USA, the world's largest commercial blueberry producer. Vaccinium corymbosum, the Northern Highbush Blueberry, is the primary species cultivated commercially across North America — the large, firm berry with an excellent balance of sweetness and tartness that makes it the industry standard for dried fruit applications. These berries are dried with no added sugar, no oil, and no juice concentrate — the sweetness in the finished product is entirely from the fruit's own natural sugars, concentrated by the drying process. This makes them meaningfully different from many commercially available dried blueberries, which are infused with added sugar syrup to improve texture and palatability.

The result is a plump, chewy berry with an intense, jammy, concentrated blueberry flavour — sweet and pleasantly tart in the right balance — and a deep blue-purple colour. Versatile in baking, breakfast foods, trail mixes, and confectionery. Available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk. This product is sold as a food only.

Dried Blueberries — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

No — these dried blueberries contain no added sugar, no oil, and no juice concentrate. The sweetness is entirely from the fruit's own natural sugars, which become concentrated and intensified during the drying process. This is an important distinction from many commercially available dried blueberries, which are infused with added sugar syrup (or apple juice concentrate, which functions as added sugar) to improve sweetness, plumpness, and texture. Checking the ingredient declaration of dried fruit is worthwhile — a single-ingredient product (100% dried blueberries) without added sweeteners or oils is meaningfully different from a sweetened alternative.
Dried blueberries have an intense, jammy, concentrated flavour — sweet with a pleasant natural tartness that fresh blueberries have in a much milder form. The drying process concentrates the fruit's sugars and flavour compounds, producing a richer, more complex taste than fresh. The texture is soft and chewy, similar to a raisin — plump rather than leathery. The colour deepens to a dark blue-purple. These berries have a clean, pure blueberry character without any artificial sweetness or the cloying quality that sugar-added dried fruit can have. The natural tartness makes them work particularly well in baked goods where a sweet-sour balance is desired.
Baking: fold into muffins, scones, pancakes, biscuits, and fruit loaves — the concentrated jammy flavour holds up well to baking temperatures. Rehydrating before baking (see below) gives the best results. Breakfast foods: stir into porridge, overnight oats, and muesli; sprinkle over yoghurt and smoothie bowls. Trail mix: combine with nuts, seeds, and other dried fruit for a no-added-sugar trail mix where the blueberry's natural sweetness and tartness contrasts well with the richer flavours of nuts and dark chocolate. Granola: fold through finished granola (added after baking, not during, to prevent burning). Salads: scatter over salads with goat cheese, feta, walnuts, and leafy greens for sweet-tart contrast. Confectionery: use in chocolate bark, energy balls, and raw bliss balls.
For most baking applications, rehydrating is recommended and produces better results. Dried blueberries will absorb moisture from the surrounding batter during baking — if added dry, they draw moisture out of the crumb, potentially making the texture drier and leaving the berries themselves still slightly chewy rather than soft and juicy. To rehydrate: place the berries in warm water for 15–30 minutes, then drain well and pat dry before folding into your batter. The berries will be plumper, softer, and juicier in the finished bake. The drained soaking liquid can be added to the batter in small quantities as a natural flavouring. For trail mix and no-bake applications, rehydrating is not necessary.
Store in a sealed, airtight container in a cool, dark, dry location — a pantry at or below 23°C is suitable for short-to-medium term storage. For long-term freshness and to maintain the soft, chewy texture: refrigeration or freezing is recommended. Refrigerated dried blueberries stay soft and plump for much longer; frozen dried blueberries can be kept almost indefinitely without quality loss as long as the container is sealed and moisture is excluded. Before using from frozen, allow to come to room temperature in the sealed container to prevent condensation forming on the cold berries. Shelf life at room temperature is up to 24 months from production when stored correctly.
The standard sizes listed — 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg — are our regular stocked wholesale pack sizes, but The Herbal Connection is a wholesale supplier and can accommodate bulk orders well beyond these standard sizes.
