Dried Figs Diced — Ficus carica, No Added Sugar

Diced Dried Figs (Ficus carica) — whole dried figs conveniently diced into small pieces with no added sugar, finished with a dusting of rice flour to prevent the naturally sticky cut surfaces from clumping. The common fig (Ficus carica) is one of the oldest cultivated fruit trees in human history, native to the Middle East and western Asia and cultivated across the Mediterranean basin for millennia. The drying process concentrates the fig's natural sugars, producing a rich, deep, caramel-honey-like sweetness and a dense, satisfying chew that is unlike any other dried fruit. Dicing makes figs far more convenient for baking and food manufacturing applications where whole figs would need to be chopped.

The diced format integrates directly into muffin and cake batters, granola, muesli, trail mix, and energy ball formulations without any preparation required. The rich flavour pairs particularly well with warm spices (cinnamon, ginger, cardamom), nuts (walnut, almond, pecan), cheese (goat, blue, aged cheddar), and dark chocolate. No added sugar — the sweetness is entirely from the fruit's own concentrated natural sugars. Ingredient declaration: Dried Figs, Rice Flour. Freeze-treated. Available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk. This product is sold as a food only.

Diced Dried Figs — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

No — the ingredient declaration is Dried Figs, Rice Flour, with no added sugar of any kind. The rice flour is a standard anti-caking agent applied to the cut surfaces of the diced fig to prevent the naturally very sticky pieces from clumping together into a solid mass during storage and handling. It has no impact on flavour. The sweetness in the finished product is entirely from the fig's own natural sugars, which become concentrated and intensified during the drying process — producing the rich, caramel-like sweetness that makes dried figs so distinctive.
The diced format is ready to use straight from the pack — no soaking, chopping, or preparation required. Baking: fold directly into muffin, cake, scone, and biscuit batters; stir into bread dough for a fig and nut loaf; use in fig-and-walnut or fig-and-almond biscotti. Breakfast: stir into porridge, muesli, and yoghurt; scatter over granola. Trail mix and energy balls: combine with nuts, seeds, coconut flakes, and dark chocolate for energy balls or trail mix — the fig's natural stickiness helps energy balls hold their shape without added binders. Salads: scatter over salads with goat cheese, walnuts, and rocket for a sweet contrast. Cheese and charcuterie: serve alongside aged cheeses and cured meats where the sweetness provides balance. Compote: simmer briefly with water, a squeeze of orange juice, and a cinnamon stick for a quick fig compote.
Rice flour is used as an anti-caking or anti-sticking agent on the cut surfaces of diced dried figs. Dried figs are naturally extremely sticky — they contain a very high concentration of natural sugars which become increasingly adhesive as the fruit dries. When the whole fig is diced, all those fresh cut surfaces are exposed and highly prone to clumping, fusing together, and forming solid masses during storage. A light dusting of rice flour on the cut surfaces prevents this without affecting flavour. Rice flour is a common food-industry anti-caking solution for sticky dried fruits and is used in preference to refined starch or other alternatives because it is gluten-free and has a neutral flavour. Buyers with strict gluten intolerance should note that this product is technically gluten-free by ingredient, but should contact us regarding facility handling if cross-contamination is a concern.
They're the same fruit in a very different state. Fresh figs are soft, delicate, moist, and perishable — with a gentle sweetness and the characteristic seedy crunch of the interior. They have a very short shelf life and are available only briefly in season. Dried figs are the same fruit with the moisture removed: the sweetness concentrates dramatically, the texture shifts from soft and yielding to dense and chewy, and the caramel-honey flavour notes emerge and deepen in a way that fresh figs don't fully express. Dried figs are shelf-stable for up to 24 months under correct storage, making them a practical pantry ingredient year-round. For baking, trail mix, and blending into energy balls, dried figs are the better choice. For eating fresh or in quick fruit salads, fresh figs are the better choice.
Store in a sealed, airtight container in a cool, dark, dry location — a pantry at or below 23°C is suitable. In warm or humid climates (Queensland summers, for example), refrigeration is recommended to maintain the soft, chewy texture and prevent the natural sugars from crystallising or the product from drying out excessively. Can dried figs go bad? Yes, over time — if exposed to moisture they can develop mould; if stored in a warm or unsealed environment they can dry out and harden. Properly stored in a sealed airtight container, they should remain soft and chewy for the full stated shelf life of up to 24 months. If pieces have hardened, brief soaking in warm water (5–10 minutes) will restore a softer texture for most applications.
