Digest and Circulation Blend — Loose Herbal Blend for People & Horses

A versatile seven-herb blend — Clivers, Fennel, Hawthorn, Rosehips, Vervain, Celery Seed, and Black Pepper — originally formulated as part of The Herbal Connection's equine range, but built entirely from botanicals with centuries of documented use in human herbal practice as well. The same herbs that traditionally support gastrointestinal comfort and circulatory wellbeing in horses translate directly to human use, and this blend works equally well steeped as a loose leaf herbal tea for people or added to feed for horses.

Whether you're looking for a traditional digestive and circulatory herbal blend for your own cup or for your horse's feed, this is a practical, well-composed option with real herbal depth. Blended in Australia from local and imported ingredients. Available wholesale in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk packs. Always consult a veterinarian for equine use and a healthcare professional for personal health concerns.

Digest and Circulation Blend — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

Yes — this blend is well-suited to both people and horses. While it was first formulated as part of The Herbal Connection's equine range, every botanical in the blend has an equally long and well-documented history of use in human herbal practice. The gastrointestinal and circulatory support these herbs have traditionally offered horses translates directly across to people — the herbs themselves don't change, only the format of delivery. For horses, add to feed; for people, steep as a loose leaf herbal tea. Always consult a veterinarian for equine use and a healthcare professional for personal health concerns.
Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna and related species) is a thorny shrub native to Europe, North Africa, and West Asia, with a documented history of use in herbal medicine stretching back to ancient Greece. In Western herbal practice, hawthorn — particularly the berries, leaves, and flowers — is one of the most widely used botanicals associated with cardiovascular support, and features in both human herbal medicine and equine herbal feeding traditions. It has a mildly sweet, slightly tart flavour.
Clivers (Galium aparine) — also known as cleavers or goosegrass — is a scrambling annual herb that grows widely across Europe, Asia, North America, and Australia. It has been used in European herbal medicine since at least the time of Dioscorides in the 1st century AD and features prominently in traditional Western herbalism as a lymphatic herb, used in blends associated with lymphatic and circulatory support in both people and animals. It has a mild, grassy flavour.
Celery Seed (Apium graveolens) has been cultivated as a food and medicinal plant since ancient Egypt and Greece. The seeds have a distinctive, warm, slightly bitter aromatic character and are rich in volatile oils. In traditional European herbalism, celery seed is associated with the urinary system, joints, and circulation, and has a long history of use in blends for arthritic and urinary conditions in both humans and animals. Its aromatic and circulatory associations make it a natural fit for this blend.
Black pepper (Piper nigrum) contains piperine — the compound responsible for its heat and pungency. In herbal tradition, black pepper has been used as a circulatory stimulant and is sometimes added to blends as a bioavailability enhancer, as piperine is known to increase the absorption of certain plant compounds. It has been used in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years and has a long history in both human herbal practice and equine herbal feeding.
Vervain (Verbena officinalis) is a small, flowering plant native to Europe and parts of Asia with a history of use in traditional herbal medicine stretching back to ancient Rome and Celtic folk medicine. In Western herbalism, vervain is classified as a nervine and bitter tonic — used traditionally to support the nervous system and liver. In both human and equine herbal traditions, it is included in blends for its bitter tonic and nervine properties, particularly where digestive sluggishness or tension are concerns.
Add one heaped teaspoon to a teapot or infuser. Pour freshly boiled water over the blend and steep for 5–7 minutes — the fennel seed, celery seed, and hawthorn benefit from a longer steep to release their full flavour. Strain and enjoy. The blend has a mildly earthy, slightly spiced character with a gentle warmth from the black pepper. Store below 23°C in a dark, airtight container.
Digest and Circulation Blend is available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk packs. The 5kg option is a bulk pack, not individual units. For larger volumes or wholesale enquiries, please contact our office directly. We ship Australia-wide from our Gold Coast warehouse.
Store below 23°C in a cool, dry, dark location in an airtight container. Seal tightly after each use to preserve the aromatic qualities of the fennel and celery seed. When stored correctly the blend maintains its quality for 2+ years from production.
