Veterans Blend — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

Veterans Blend is part of The Herbal Connection's equine herbal range and is specifically formulated for horses — in particular, older horses whose bodies may benefit from a more targeted botanical support blend. The name reflects its positioning for veteran, experienced horses. Always consult a veterinarian before introducing any new supplement to your horse's feed routine.
Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is a deep-rooted perennial herb native to Europe and Asia with one of the longest documented histories in European herbal medicine — used since at least ancient Greece. Its name is believed to derive from the Latin confirmare, meaning "to join together," reflecting its traditional association with tissue and bone repair. In equine herbal tradition, comfrey has been used for centuries for musculoskeletal support. This product is formulated for equine use only. Comfrey contains naturally occurring pyrrolizidine alkaloids and is not intended for internal human consumption.
White Willow Bark (Salix alba) has been used as a botanical since ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome — Hippocrates wrote about using willow leaves and bark for fever and pain. It contains salicin, a natural compound that is a chemical precursor to salicylic acid — the active ingredient in aspirin. In both traditional human and equine herbal practice, white willow bark is one of the most historically documented botanicals used for musculoskeletal discomfort. It has a mildly bitter, astringent flavour characteristic of tannin-rich bark herbs.
St Mary's Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) is a flowering herb native to the Mediterranean with seeds that contain a group of flavonoid compounds collectively known as silymarin. Milk thistle seed has been used in European herbal medicine since at least the 1st century AD and is one of the most well-researched herbs in the Western tradition for liver support. In equine herbal practice it is commonly used as a liver and digestive tonic, particularly for older horses or those who have undergone periods of intense physical work or medication.
Celery Seed (Apium graveolens) has been used in traditional herbal medicine across Europe and Asia for centuries, particularly in association with joint and urinary tract support. It has a warm, slightly bitter flavour and is a long-standing feature of European herbal blends for musculoskeletal use. Black Peppercorns (Piper nigrum) contain piperine, which has been shown to enhance bioavailability of other botanical compounds — in this blend they serve a similar function to their role in turmeric-based preparations, helping the body access the active compounds from the other ingredients more efficiently.
Add the blend to your horse's regular feed — hard feed, chaff, or bran mash all work well. Start with a small amount to allow your horse to adjust and accept the new flavours, then build to the recommended serving over several days. Always consult your veterinarian for appropriate serving sizes based on your horse's weight, age, and health status. Store below 23°C in a sealed, dry, dark container.
Veterans Blend is available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk packs. The 5kg option is a bulk pack, not individual units. For larger volumes or wholesale enquiries, please contact our office directly. We ship Australia-wide from our Gold Coast warehouse.
