Yerba Mate leaves contain saponins (In fact, one recent study yielded 3 new saponins in the Yerba Mate leaf!) Saponins are phytochemicals that have been found to specifically stimulate the immune system and aid the body in protecting against disease. They possess significant anti-inflammatory properties. The immune system, a critical collection of biological structures and processes, is important to keep as strong as possible.

The yerba mate provides the dominant earthy, bittersweet base; the green tea sencha adds a lighter, vegetal, slightly astringent green tea note that rounds the mate character; and the peppermint delivers a clean, bright, cooling top note that cuts through both and makes the cup feel fresh and invigorating. The overall profile is markedly different from plain yerba mate — more complex, more aromatic, and significantly more approachable for those new to mate. The peppermint is the defining flavour in the finish.
Yes — both Yerba Mate (Ilex paraguariensis) and Green Tea Sencha (Camellia sinensis) contain naturally occurring caffeine. Peppermint is caffeine-free. This is a caffeinated blend with two caffeine sources combined. The total caffeine per cup will depend on the ratio of each ingredient in the blend and the brewing time and temperature used. This is not suitable for those avoiding caffeine.
Yerba Mate and green tea are botanically distinct — mate is a South American holly (Ilex paraguariensis), sencha is Japanese Camellia sinensis — but both are caffeinated and have complementary flavour profiles. Mate is earthy, bold, and bittersweet; sencha is fresh, vegetal, and mildly astringent. Blending the two creates a more layered flavour than either delivers alone, with the sencha softening mate's more abrasive edges while the mate gives the sencha more body and depth. The combination also brings together two of the world's most significant caffeine-bearing botanical traditions in a single cup.
Add 1–2 teaspoons per cup. Use water at 70–75°C — this suits both the yerba mate (which becomes bitter at boiling) and the sencha (which also benefits from sub-boiling temperature). Steep for 3–5 minutes and strain. The peppermint releases quickly; the mate and sencha need the full steep time. Cover during steeping to retain the aromatic peppermint oils. Can be re-infused once for a lighter second cup.
