Our Mother's Milk Tea is a comforting, naturopath-inspired blend designed to support nursing mothers. Combining traditional galactagogues like Fenugreek and Goat's Rue with nutrient-rich Nettle and soothing Fennel, it offers a warm, earthy flavour with a refreshing hint of Spearmint.

Directions of Use

1. Use 1 heaped teaspoon of the herbal blend per cup (250ml).

2. Pour boiling water (100°C) over the herbs to extract the properties of the seeds.

3. Cover the cup or pot and let it steep for 10 minutes.

4. Strain and enjoy hot, or chill for a refreshing iced tea.

5. Drink 1-3 cups daily, or as directed by your lactation consultant.

Goat's Rue (Galega officinalis) is a flowering plant native to southern Europe and western Asia, with a history of use in European herbal medicine since the Middle Ages. It was traditionally fed to goats to increase their milk production — hence the name — and has been used in European folk medicine as an herb associated with lactation for centuries. It has a mild, slightly bitter, leguminous flavour. Always consult a healthcare professional before use while breastfeeding.
Blessed Thistle (Cnicus benedictus) is a plant native to the Mediterranean that has been used in European herbal medicine since at least the 14th century — it is mentioned in William Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" as a remedy. It belongs to the same family as milk thistle and has a long tradition of use in monastic medicine. In traditional nursing herbalism it is commonly paired with Fenugreek, as the two are considered synergistic in their traditional application. It has a bitter, herbaceous flavour.
Epilobium (Epilobium parviflorum and related species) — also known as Willowherb — is a small flowering plant found across Europe and Asia that has been used in traditional Austrian and European folk herbal medicine. It has a long history of use as a tonic herb in central European herbal tradition. It has a mild, slightly astringent flavour and is included in this blend as a traditional nutritive and tonic botanical complement to the other herbs.
Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) and Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) are two of the most historically documented herbs in the traditional nursing herbal canon. Both have been used in traditional herbal medicine across the Middle East, India, and the Mediterranean for thousands of years — particularly in relation to women's wellness and postpartum care. Fenugreek has a distinctive sweet, maple-like aroma while Fennel contributes a characteristic warm anise flavour. Together they provide the dominant aromatic character of this blend.
Yes — completely. All eight botanicals in this blend are herbal ingredients with no caffeine and no derivation from the Camellia sinensis tea plant. Mother's Milk Tea is naturally caffeine-free and suitable for consumption at any time of day or night.
Add 1 heaped teaspoon per cup (250ml) to a teapot or infuser. Pour fully boiled water (100°C) over the blend and cover the cup or pot immediately. Steep for 10 minutes — this is important. The seed herbs (Fenugreek, Fennel, Milk Thistle) require fully boiling water and a longer steep to properly extract, and covering traps the volatile aromatic oils from the Spearmint and Lemongrass. Strain and enjoy hot or chill for iced tea. Sweeten with honey if desired.
