Liver Support Tea — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis) — known in Chinese as Wu Wei Zi, meaning "five flavour berry" — is a climbing vine native to northern China and Russia whose small red berries are considered unique in Traditional Chinese Medicine for simultaneously expressing all five flavours: sour, sweet, bitter, pungent, and salty. It has been used in TCM for over 2,000 years and is classified as an adaptogen — a botanical traditionally used to help the body maintain balance under stress. It is particularly associated in Chinese herbal tradition with liver protection and tonic use.
St Mary's Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) is a flowering plant native to the Mediterranean with a documented history of medicinal use stretching back over 2,000 years. The seeds contain silymarin — a complex of flavonolignans — that has made it one of the most extensively studied herbs in Western botanical medicine. It is classified in Western herbal practice as a hepatoprotective herb — that is, a botanical traditionally used specifically to protect and support the liver — and is one of the most widely sold herbal ingredients globally.
Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) — known in Chinese as Huang Qi — is one of the most important tonic herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine, with a history of use spanning at least 2,000 years. It is classified as a major qi (life energy) tonic and adaptogen in TCM, traditionally associated with strengthening the body's overall vitality, supporting the immune system, and nourishing the spleen and lung meridians. It has a mildly sweet, slightly earthy flavour and is commonly used as a long-term tonic herb in Chinese herbal practice.
Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale) has been used in traditional herbal medicine across Europe, Asia, and North America for centuries. In Western herbal tradition it is one of the most important liver and digestive herbs — classified as a hepatic, cholagogue (bile stimulant), and bitter tonic. The root, as distinct from the leaf, is more specifically associated with liver and digestive support in the Western herbal pharmacopoeia. When roasted it develops a rich, coffee-like flavour that makes it an appealing base for herbal teas.
Yes — completely. All four botanicals — Schisandra Berries, Milk Thistle Seed, Astragalus Root, and Dandelion Root — are herbal ingredients with no caffeine and no derivation from the Camellia sinensis tea plant. Liver Support Tea is naturally caffeine-free and suitable at any time of day.
Add one heaped teaspoon to a teapot or infuser. Pour freshly boiled water that has cooled slightly over the blend and steep for 5–7 minutes — the crushed milk thistle seed and root herbs benefit from a longer, slightly cooler steep to extract their character without bitterness. Strain and enjoy. The blend has a mild, earthy, slightly bitter flavour. Store below 23°C in a dark, airtight container.
Liver Support Tea is available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk packs. The 5kg option is a bulk pack, not individual units. For larger volumes, contract blending, or private label enquiries, please contact our office directly. We ship Australia-wide from our Gold Coast warehouse.
Store below 23°C in a dark, dry location in an airtight container. When stored correctly, the blend maintains its quality for 2+ years from production.
