Green Tea Sencha

Green tea is the healthiest beverage on the planet. It is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that have powerful effects on the body. These include improved brain function, fat loss, a lower risk of cancer and many other impressive benefits

Nutmeg

Nutmeg is a great detoxifier, as well as being wonderful for kidney health, pain relief, and insomnia.

Cardamom

Used for digestion problems including heartburn, intestinal spasms, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diarrhea, constipation, liver and gallbladder complaints, and loss of appetite.

Cloves

Not to be taken lightly because of their small size, they are beneficial for the digestive process, blood sugar regulation and much more.

Ginger

Ginger is known to have powerful medicinal properties. From aiding in the reduction of muscle pain and soreness, nausea and morning sickness, as well as being a natural appetite suppressant, so often used in the aid of weight loss.

Star Anise

Anise also helps improve digestion, alleviate cramps and reduce nausea. Consuming star anise tea after meals helps treat digestive ailments such as bloating, gas, indigestion and constipation

Black Pepper

Potassium, another mineral in black pepper, helps improve your stomach's ability to digest foods and promotes intestinal health. Because black pepper is a carminative, it discourages intestinal gas from forming, and as a bonus, the outer layer of the peppercorn aids in the break-down of fat cells.

Green Tea Chai Organic — Organic Sencha with Chai Spices, Made in Australia

A warming, aromatic certified organic chai blend using organic Sencha green tea (Camellia sinensis) as the base, combined with the full classic chai spice profile: green cardamom pods and seeds, cinnamon chips, cut ginger, whole cloves, cracked black pepper, nutmeg chips, and whole star anise. All ingredients are certified organic. Blended in Australia from local and imported organic ingredients by The Herbal Connection from our 5-Star Eat Safe licensed facility on the Gold Coast.

The Sencha green tea base gives this chai a lighter, brighter character than black tea-based chai — green tea has a fresh, slightly grassy, vegetal character that carries the warm spices in a less heavy, more refreshing way than a malty black tea base. The spice balance is full-spectrum chai: the floral warmth of cardamom, the sweet bark note of cinnamon, the bright heat of ginger and pepper, the clove's deep intensity, the floral-anise warmth of star anise, and the distinctive warm-sweet character of nutmeg. Contains caffeine from the Sencha green tea base — green tea contains moderate caffeine levels, lower than black tea but noticeably present. ⚠ Naturally occurring sulphites in ginger — voluntarily declared; ginger naturally contains sulphites at levels typically below the FSANZ mandatory declaration threshold of 10mg/kg, but HC chooses to note this for sulphite-sensitive customers. Available 250g to 5kg bulk. Sold as a food only.

Green Tea Chai Organic — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

The base tea determines the overall character of the blend significantly. Black tea chai has a malty, robust, full-bodied base that provides a dark, heavy-drinking backdrop for the chai spices — the tannins in black tea create a drying, structured mouthfeel. Green tea chai (this product) uses Sencha — an unoxidised green tea with a fresh, slightly grassy, vegetal character — as the base. The result is a lighter, brighter, less heavy chai that feels more refreshing and less rich than black tea versions. The spice flavours come forward more distinctly in the green tea base because they are not competing with the malt and tannin of black tea. Green tea chai is also noticeably lower in caffeine than black tea chai, and brews to a lighter golden-amber colour rather than dark brown.
Important: green tea is sensitive to water temperature — boiling water (100°C) will make green tea bitter and astringent. Use water at approximately 70–80°C for the best result. Simple steep method: add 1 teaspoon of the blend to a cup or strainer. Pour water heated to 75–80°C over the blend and steep for 2–3 minutes. Strain. Add milk and sweetener to taste. Stovetop method (gentler): add 1 teaspoon to a small saucepan. Add 1 cup of water at 75°C (do not boil with the green tea) and steep over very low heat for 2–3 minutes. Add milk and warm gently without boiling. Strain and sweeten to taste. A shorter steep time and lower temperature than black tea chai gives the green tea base a cleaner, less bitter result while still allowing the whole spices to infuse well.
Yes — this blend contains caffeine from the Sencha green tea base (Camellia sinensis). Green tea contains a moderate amount of caffeine — typically 20–35mg per 250ml cup, compared to 40–70mg for the same serving of black tea and 80–120mg for coffee. This blend is not suitable for those avoiding caffeine entirely. For a caffeine-free chai option, the Dandelion Roasted Chai Organic (roasted dandelion root base) or Rooibos Chai Organic (naturally caffeine-free rooibos base) are available from the HC range.
Ginger naturally contains small amounts of sulphites as a result of its biological chemistry — they are not added during processing. HC voluntarily declares this as "naturally occurring sulphites" as a precaution for customers with sulphite sensitivity. The levels in ginger are typically in the range of 5–9mg/kg, which is generally below the FSANZ mandatory declaration threshold of 10mg/kg — meaning this declaration is made voluntarily rather than being a regulatory requirement. For most individuals, naturally occurring sulphites at these levels present no concern. For those with a confirmed sulphite allergy or sensitivity, particularly individuals with asthma (who are more commonly affected by sulphite sensitivity), this blend should be avoided. The Herbal Connection makes no allergen-free claims.
