Directions of Use
Supplied as whole seed, so the flavour is at its best when the seeds are toasted and ground just before use.
1. Toast and grind: Dry-fry the seeds in a pan over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant, let them cool, then grind in a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
2. Spice blends and rubs: Use whole or freshly ground seed in curry powders, garam masala, dukkah-style mixes, rubs and marinades.
3. Pickling and chutneys: Add whole seeds to pickling brines, chutneys, relishes and slow-cooked dishes.
4. Infusions: Lightly crush the seeds and steep in hot water as a simple infusion, or use in tea blends.

What does whole coriander seed taste like and what is it used for?
Coriander seed is the dried fruit of the coriander plant. Crushed or toasted, it has a warm, nutty, lemony-citrus and lightly spicy flavour, quite different from the fresh leaves (cilantro) of the same plant. It is widely used in curry powders, spice blends, pickling, chutneys, rubs and marinades, and is also steeped as a simple infusion. Coriander seed has a long traditional use in many food and herbal traditions. For personalised guidance on health concerns, consult a healthcare professional.
How do I use whole coriander seed in cooking?
For the strongest aroma, dry-fry the seeds in a pan over medium heat until fragrant, let them cool, then grind just before use. You can also add whole seeds directly to pickling brines, chutneys, slow-cooked dishes and spice blends, or lightly crush them to steep as an infusion.
What is the difference between whole and ground coriander seed?
Whole seed holds its flavour and aroma for longer, and grinding it fresh gives a more fragrant result than pre-ground coriander. This product is whole seed only, not ground. If a recipe calls for ground coriander, grind the whole seeds first and measure after grinding.
