Directions of Use
This is a loose leaf green tea – brew it in a teapot or infuser.
1. Use 1 teaspoon of Sencha leaves per cup. Use water that is well below boiling (around 75–85°C).
2. Pour the hot water over the leaves and steep for 1–3 minutes. A shorter steep time prevents bitterness.
3. Strain the leaves and enjoy the bright, clean flavour of the infusion.
4. High-quality Sencha leaves can be re-steeped 2–3 times. Use slightly hotter water for each subsequent, shorter infusion.
5. For iced tea, brew a double-strength batch, let it cool, and pour over ice.

What is sencha green tea?
Sencha is a steamed green tea made from whole tea leaves that are rolled and dried, then steeped in hot water and strained. The steaming step locks in the leaf's vibrant green colour and gives sencha its fresh, grassy flavour with a delicate sweetness and a hint of savoury umami.

Does sencha green tea have caffeine?
Yes. Sencha is made from Camellia sinensis, the tea plant, so it naturally contains caffeine – it is not a decaf tea. The amount in each cup varies with how much leaf you use, the water temperature and how long you steep.
How do I brew sencha green tea?
Use 1 teaspoon of leaves per cup and water that is well below boiling, around 75–85°C. Steep for 1–3 minutes – a shorter steep helps prevent bitterness – then strain. What does sencha green tea taste like?
Sencha has a fresh, grassy flavour with a delicate sweetness and a hint of savoury umami. Brewed well, it is bright, clean and refreshing; water that is too hot or a long steep can make it bitter.
What is the difference between sencha and matcha?
Matcha is a powdered green tea – the whole leaf is ground and whisked into the water, so you drink the leaf. Sencha is a loose leaf tea – the leaves are steeped and strained out, leaving a lighter infusion. Sencha is also easier to brew, needing only a cup or teapot and an infuser.
What are the benefits of sencha green tea?
Green tea has long been enjoyed as part of a balanced diet, and many people drink sencha as a refreshing daily tea.
