About

Our certified Organic Spearmint offers a refreshingly sweet, mild, and aromatic mint flavour. Unlike its pungent cousin peppermint, spearmint provides a gentle, cooling sensation without the intense menthol bite, making it a wonderfully smooth and uplifting herbal tea for any time of day.

As always, it's advisable to consult with healthcare professionals for personalised guidance on health concerns.

Directions of Use

1. Use 1-2 teaspoons of dried spearmint leaves per cup of just-boiled water (95-100°C).

2. Cover your cup or teapot and steep for 5-7 minutes. Covering is key to trapping the delicate aromatic oils.

3. Enjoy hot for a soothing, gentle brew. Its natural sweetness means it rarely needs added honey.

4. For a classic iced tea, brew a strong batch, allow it to cool, and serve over ice with a wedge of lime and fresh mint leaves.

5. Crumble the dried leaves to add a refreshing minty flavour to sauces, marinades, salads, or desserts.

Mint comparison icon

What is the difference between Spearmint and Peppermint?

The main difference is their chemical composition. Peppermint is high in menthol (around 40%), giving it a very strong, pungent, and cooling 'bite'. Spearmint contains a compound called carvone and has very little menthol (less than 1%), resulting in a much milder, sweeter, and more delicate mint flavour.

Flavour profile icon

What does Spearmint tea taste like?

Spearmint tea has a refreshingly sweet, light, and clean minty taste. It lacks the sharp, cooling intensity of peppermint, making it a much smoother and gentler brew that many people find more palatable for everyday drinking.

Caffeine-free icon

Is Spearmint tea caffeine-free?

Yes, spearmint tea is a true herbal tisane and is 100% naturally caffeine-free. This makes it a perfect, refreshing beverage for any time of day or evening, hot or cold.

Tea preparation icon

How do you make the best Spearmint tea?

For an ideal cup, use 1-2 teaspoons of dried leaves per cup of just-boiled water. To capture all the delicate aromatic oils, it's very important to cover your cup or teapot while it steeps for about 5-7 minutes.

Cooking uses icon

Can Spearmint be used in cooking?

Absolutely. Its sweeter, milder flavour is excellent in both sweet and savoury dishes. It's the classic mint for mint sauce to accompany lamb, and is also delicious in salads, dressings, desserts, and cocktails like the Mojito.

Plant name icon

Why is it called 'spear' mint?

The name comes from the appearance of its leaves, which are pointed and spear-shaped, distinguishing them from the more rounded leaves of some other mint varieties.
