Certified Organic Rosehip Powder — Rosa canina, South Africa

Certified Organic Rosehip Powder (Rosa canina) — the whole fruit of the Dog Rose ground to a fine powder, sourced from certified organic production in South Africa. Unlike rosehip shell cut and granule formats — which use only the outer fruit wall — rosehip powder is produced from the complete whole fruit including the seeds, seed hairs, and fruit wall together. This means the powder contains the full complement of the rosehip fruit's naturally occurring compounds across all parts of the fruit, and produces a product with greater density and body than infusion-grade granules. South Africa is a significant commercial producer of rosehip, with wild Rosa canina growing extensively in suitable highland and temperate regions.

The powder is a reddish-orange to warm tan colour with the characteristic tart, fruity rosehip flavour — though the powder is used primarily in applications where it is incorporated into a product rather than brewed as a clear tea infusion. Certified organic. Naturally caffeine-free. Available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk. This product is sold as a food only.

Certified Organic Rosehip Powder — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

The formats serve fundamentally different applications. Rosehip granules and shell cut are designed for infusion — the pieces steep in hot water to produce a clear, tart, reddish-orange tea. Shell cut uses the outer fruit wall only (seeds removed); granules are finely cut pieces with greater surface area for faster extraction. Neither produces a good result if simply stirred into cold or room-temperature liquid. Rosehip powder is the whole fruit — seeds, seed material, and fruit wall — ground to a fine powder. It does not produce a clear infusion; stirred into water it creates a thick, opaque, slightly gritty beverage. The powder's highest-value applications are in smoothies (where thickness is fine), stirred into yoghurt, blended into food products, and incorporated into supplement formulations — anywhere the powder is consumed as a dispersed ingredient rather than used to make a strained infusion. The powder provides the complete fruit profile; the granules and shells provide a clean extracted infusion.
Smoothies and smoothie bowls: the most natural application — add 1–2 teaspoons to any fruit or berry smoothie; the tart rosehip flavour complements berry, mango, and citrus bases well. The powder blends seamlessly and the colour adds a warm reddish tone. Yoghurt and dairy: stir through yoghurt, kefir, and quark; blend into whipped cream and dessert bases. Baking: fold into muffin and cake batters, energy balls, granola bars, and breakfast biscuits for natural colour and flavour. Beverage manufacturing: incorporate into juice blends, powdered drink mixes, and functional beverage powders where a dispersible whole-fruit ingredient is required. Supplement formulation: suitable as a base ingredient in capsule and tablet manufacture or blended powder supplements where the whole fruit profile is desired. Confectionery: blend into chocolate, gummies, and natural sweets.
Not in the traditional sense of a clear, strained infusion. When rosehip powder is stirred into hot water, it produces an opaque, somewhat thick, cloudy beverage rather than a clear tea — because the fine powder particles remain suspended rather than steeping and being strained out like leaves or granules. Some people consume it this way as a nutritional drink, similar to how matcha or cacao powder is whisked into hot water, but it has a gritty texture at higher quantities and lacks the visual clarity of rosehip granule tea. For a clear, classically presented rosehip tea, the Rosehip Shell Cut or Rosehip Granules TBC 2–3mm Organic are the appropriate formats. The powder is better suited to applications where it is blended into rather than infused.
South Africa has become a significant commercial source of Rosa canina for the international herbal and supplement market. Wild and cultivated Rosa canina grows in the cooler, higher-altitude regions of the country — particularly in the Western Cape and surrounding highland areas — where suitable conditions for quality rosehip production exist. The South African origin provides an additional supply source alongside the more commonly known Chilean and Eastern European (Albanian, Bulgarian) production regions, diversifying the supply chain and offering certified organic product at competitive pricing. The certified organic status of this South African powder confirms it meets accredited organic standards at the farm and processing level.
The HC rosehip range covers the complete spectrum of formats. Rosehip Powder Organic (this product, HTO.RHPK1) — whole fruit certified organic powder, South Africa.
