Organic East-West Rooibos Tea — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) — Afrikaans for "red bush" — is a broom-like shrub that grows exclusively in the Cederberg mountain region of South Africa's Western Cape. It has been consumed by the indigenous Khoisan people of the region for centuries before being commercially cultivated in the early 20th century. When fermented and dried, the needle-like leaves produce a rich, naturally sweet, mildly earthy red infusion with no bitterness and no caffeine. Rooibos is completely unique to South Africa — it cannot be cultivated anywhere else in the world.
Yes — completely. Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) is not related to the Camellia sinensis tea plant and contains no caffeine whatsoever. Neither do the rose petals, cinnamon, or stevia leaf. This blend is fully caffeine-free and suitable for any time of day, including evening and night.
Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) is a plant native to Paraguay and Brazil whose leaves contain steviol glycosides — compounds that are extraordinarily sweet, reportedly 200–300 times sweeter than sugar, but which contribute negligible calories and have no effect on blood sugar. The indigenous Guaraní people of South America have used stevia leaves as a sweetener and medicinal herb for centuries. In this blend, Organic Stevia Leaf Powder provides a gentle natural sweetness that complements the already-sweet Rooibos base without any added sugar — making it an ideal option for customers seeking a naturally sweetened tea.
The name "East-West" reflects the blend's cross-cultural inspiration — bringing together South African Rooibos with flavours drawn from European and Asian traditions. Rose petals (Rosa spp.) have been used in Persian, Turkish, and South Asian culinary and herbal traditions for centuries, contributing a delicate, sweet floral fragrance that lifts the earthy rooibos. Cinnamon Chips — pieces of dried cinnamon bark — provide a warm, subtly sweet spice note that has been traded and valued since antiquity across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, complementing the earthiness of the rooibos beautifully.
Yes — the Rooibos Tea, Cinnamon Chips, and Stevia Leaf Powder are all certified organic. The Red Rose Petals are included as a non-organic ingredient. The blend is made to order at The Herbal Connection — a Certified Organic business operating from our 5-Star Eat Safe licensed facility on the Gold Coast.
Add one teaspoon per 200ml to a teapot or infuser. Pour freshly boiled water over the blend and steep for 3–4 minutes. The blend is forgiving — unlike green or white teas it will not become bitter if steeped a little longer. Strain and enjoy as-is; the stevia leaf provides a natural sweetness so no additional sweetener is needed. Also excellent as an iced tea — brew strong, chill, and serve over ice. Store below 23°C in a dark, airtight container.
Organic East-West Rooibos Tea is available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk packs. The 5kg option is a bulk pack, not individual units. Store below 23°C in a dark, dry, airtight container. The cinnamon chips are highly aromatic — seal tightly after each use to preserve their essential oils. Shelf life is up to 24 months when stored correctly.
