About

Our Earl Grey Tea OP Organic is a classic, fragrant cup made from certified organic Darjeeling black tea and natural bergamot oil (Citrus bergamia). The HC team infuse the natural bergamot oil ourselves, giving this loose leaf tea its signature citrus aroma. A premium, extremely high quality tea, it's well suited to everyday brewing, cafés, tea service and baking. "OP" stands for Orange Pekoe, a leaf-grade term – it doesn't mean the tea contains orange. Produced in Australia using local and imported ingredients.

As always, it's advisable to consult with healthcare professionals for personalised guidance on health concerns.

Directions of Use

This is a loose leaf black tea – brew it in a teapot or infuser using freshly boiled water.

1. Hot tea: Use about 1 teaspoon (2–3 g) per 250 ml cup. Steep for 3–5 minutes, then strain.

2. With milk or lemon: Steep a little stronger if you plan to add milk, or serve black with a slice of lemon. For a London Fog, top with steamed milk and a touch of vanilla syrup.

3. Iced tea: Brew at double strength, strain, and pour over ice.

4. Baking and cooking: Infuse the leaves in warm milk or cream, then strain and use in cakes, shortbread, custards or syrups.

Earl Grey Tea OP Organic — FAQs

Answers to common questions about our certified organic loose leaf Earl Grey

Yes. Earl Grey is a black tea, so it naturally contains caffeine – this is not a decaf tea. The amount in your cup varies with how much leaf you use, the water temperature and how long you steep, and a shorter steep generally gives a lighter cup. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding or sensitive to caffeine, check with a healthcare professional.
Earl Grey is black tea flavoured with bergamot, a fragrant citrus fruit (Citrus bergamia), whose essential oil is what gives it its distinctive scent. Our Earl Grey Tea OP Organic contains just two ingredients: certified organic Darjeeling black tea and natural bergamot oil, which the HC team infuse ourselves.
Yes – Earl Grey starts as a black tea, in this case a Darjeeling. What sets it apart is the bergamot oil, which adds a citrusy, floral aroma. English Breakfast is a black tea blend with no added flavouring, so it's typically maltier and more robust, while Earl Grey tends to be lighter and more fragrant.
Earl Grey is often described as smooth and aromatic, with a bright citrus and floral note from the bergamot sitting over the gentle flavour of black tea. Darjeeling leaf tends to be lighter and more delicate than heavier black teas, so the bergamot comes through clearly. Add milk, honey or a slice of lemon to taste.
Yes – Earl Grey Tea OP Organic is a certified organic blend, produced in Australia by the HC team using local and imported ingredients. It's available as loose leaf tea in 250g, 500g and 1kg packs. For larger wholesale quantities, get in touch with the team.
Use about 1 teaspoon (2–3 g) of loose leaf per 250 ml cup, pour over freshly boiled water and steep for 3–5 minutes in a teapot or infuser, then strain. Steep closer to 3 minutes for a lighter cup, or a little longer for a stronger one. Because this is loose leaf rather than tea bags, an infuser or strainer is all you need.
It's a matter of taste. Many people enjoy Earl Grey black with a slice of lemon, while others add a splash of milk. For a London Fog latte, steep the tea a little stronger, then top with steamed milk and a touch of vanilla syrup. Earl Grey is also popular in baking – infuse the leaves in warm milk or cream for cakes, shortbread and syrups.
Earl Grey is a black tea that many people enjoy as part of a balanced diet and a relaxing daily ritual. We don't make health claims about this product – it's sold as a food only. If you have a health condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are unsure how much caffeine suits you, consult a healthcare professional.
