Organic Wheat Grass Powder — Australian Grown Triticum aestivum

Certified Organic Australian Wheat Grass Powder (Triticum aestivum) — produced from the young, freshly sprouted leaves of organically grown wheat plants, harvested at their early growth stage before the gluten-containing grain forms, then dried and milled into a fine, vibrant green powder. Wheat grass is the young leaf shoot of common wheat — a grass in its early growth phase, botanically distinct from the mature wheat grain from which flour and gluten are derived. It has a strong, fresh, earthy-grassy character that is distinct and potent.

Australian-grown and certified organic — non-GMO, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, and adhering to Australia's certified organic standards. ⚠ Allergen: Contains Wheat. While wheat grass is naturally gluten-free as it is harvested before the grain develops, this product is not certified gluten-free and cross-contamination with the wheat grain during harvest cannot be ruled out — coeliacs and those with severe wheat/gluten sensitivities should seek certified gluten-free alternatives. Packaged in biodegradable, food-grade materials. Available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk.

Organic Wheat Grass Powder — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

Wheat grass powder is produced from the young leaf shoots of the common wheat plant (Triticum aestivum) — the same species grown for wheat grain, but harvested at a very early growth stage, typically 7–10 days after sprouting, well before the plant matures and produces the gluten-containing grain (seed). At this stage, the plant is a leafy grass with a composition quite different from mature wheat. The grass is harvested, dried at low temperatures to preserve its delicate compounds, and milled into a fine green powder. The Australian-grown organic version is produced under certified organic conditions without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, or GMO seed.
Wheat grass has a strong, potent, distinctly grassy flavour — earthy, fresh, and green, similar to freshly cut lawn grass. It has a subtle natural sweetness underneath, but the overall character is intense and is considered an acquired taste by many people. It is rarely consumed straight — the standard approach is to blend 1 teaspoon into a smoothie with sweet fruit (banana, mango, pineapple) or fresh juice to balance the intensity. Mixed into liquids it imparts a vivid green colour and a detectable grassy note even when diluted.
This is an important nuance. Wheat grass — the young leaf shoot — is naturally gluten-free, because gluten is a protein found only in the mature grain (seed) of wheat, not in the leaf. When harvested correctly before the grain forms, wheat grass contains no gluten protein. However, this product is not certified gluten-free and is labelled Contains: Wheat. Cross-contamination with mature wheat grain can occur during harvest, processing, or handling. For this reason, people with coeliac disease or severe gluten sensitivity should not rely on this product and should seek certified gluten-free alternatives. People with wheat intolerance (as distinct from gluten sensitivity) should also exercise caution.
Start with 1 level teaspoon (approximately 3–4g) — this is sufficient for most applications and a good starting point before increasing to taste. Smoothies: blend with fruit (banana, mango, or pineapple work well to balance the grassy flavour) and a liquid base such as coconut water, almond milk, or fresh juice. Juices: whisk vigorously into cold water, fresh juice, or coconut water. Cold preparations only: best consumed in cold or room-temperature applications — heat degrades the delicate compounds in the powder. Other uses: stir into salad dressings, dips, or energy ball mixes. Avoid adding to hot drinks or cooked dishes.
Both are young cereal grass powders with broadly similar nutritional profiles and applications. The key differences are in flavour and intensity. Wheat grass tends to have a stronger, sweeter, more intensely grassy flavour — its green character is more pronounced and it is the more well-known of the two. Barley grass is generally considered milder, slightly more neutral, and easier to incorporate into products without the grassy flavour dominating. Both are available certified organic and Australian-grown in the HC range — Organic Barley Grass Powder is listed as a related product for comparison.
Organic Wheat Grass Powder is available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk packs. The 5kg is bulk packed, not individual units. We ship Australia-wide from our Gold Coast warehouse. For ongoing wholesale supply enquiries, contact us at sales@herbalconnection.com.au or (07) 5451 8780.
