What is Thyme used for?

Thyme is a highly versatile culinary herb used to flavour a wide range of dishes. It's a key ingredient in Mediterranean and European cooking, perfect for seasoning roasts, stews, soups, sauces, and vegetables. It can also be brewed as an herbal tea.

Flavour icon

What does Thyme taste like?

Thyme has a complex flavour profile that is earthy, peppery, and slightly minty with floral hints. Its savoury character makes it a robust herb that stands up well to long cooking times, infusing dishes with a warm, aromatic depth.

Substitution icon

How do I substitute dried Thyme for fresh?

Dried thyme is more concentrated than fresh. A good rule of thumb is to use one-third the amount of dried thyme as you would fresh. For example, if a recipe calls for one tablespoon of fresh thyme, use one teaspoon of dried thyme cut.

Can you make Thyme tea?

Yes, thyme makes a wonderfully aromatic and soothing herbal tea. Simply steep one or two teaspoons of thyme cut in a cup of hot water (not boiling) for 5-10 minutes, strain, and enjoy. It can be sweetened with a little honey if desired.

What's the difference between Thyme and Lemon Thyme?

While related, they have distinct flavours. Common thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is earthy and peppery. Lemon thyme is a different cultivar that contains citronellol, giving it a pronounced lemon scent and taste, making it ideal for fish, poultry, and lighter dishes.

Where does our Thyme come from?

Our high-quality thyme is sourced from the sun-drenched Mediterranean region, where the climate is perfect for cultivating herbs with a robust and potent flavour profile. This ensures an authentic taste for all your culinary creations.
