About
Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis) is a climbing vine native to East Asia, prized in Traditional Chinese Medicine as one of the "50 fundamental herbs" and known there as wu wei zi, or the "five-flavor fruit," for its distinctive sour, sweet, salty, bitter and pungent notes. Our whole dried schisandra berries are traditionally valued as an adaptogen — used to help the body build resistance to everyday stress, support energy levels, and support general wellbeing. They're also traditionally used to support liver function, healthy immune response, and normal sleep patterns. These are whole, Certified Organic berries, imported and packaged here in Australia, with no additives.
As always, it's advisable to consult with healthcare professionals for personalised guidance on health concerns.
Directions of Use
Whole dried schisandra berries can be prepared several ways depending on how you like to use them:
1. Tea/Infusion: Steep 1–2 teaspoons of whole berries in hot water for 10–15 minutes, or simmer as a decoction for a stronger brew.
2. Ground/Powdered: Grind whole berries in a spice grinder and add to smoothies, tonics or recipes.
3. Snacking/Cooking: Add whole berries to soups, congee or tonic dishes as done traditionally in Chinese cooking.
4. Tinctures/Extracts: Suitable for home tincture-making — always follow a trusted recipe and consult a healthcare professional for guidance on dosage.
