Peppermint Premium Organic Large Cut — FAQs
Everything you need to know before you order.
Austrian peppermint is grown in the cool, high-altitude conditions of the Austrian herb-growing regions — a climate and terroir that consistently produces peppermint with a higher natural menthol concentration and a noticeably cleaner, brighter aromatic profile than warmer-climate peppermint grown in Egypt, China, or India. The result is a leaf that opens with a more intense, immediately striking aroma and delivers a bolder, cleaner menthol flavour in the cup. For premium tea brands and buyers who want their peppermint product to stand apart, Austrian origin is a meaningful provenance point — it is used as a premium positioning marker by specialty tea brands across Europe and is increasingly recognised in the Australian specialty tea market.
Large cut refers to the cut specification of the dried leaf — larger, more intact leaf pieces rather than the smaller, fragmented cut typical of standard commercial peppermint. This matters for several reasons. Visually, large cut peppermint leaf presents far more attractively in loose leaf tea, pyramid tea bags, and display packaging — end consumers can clearly see a real, premium leaf ingredient rather than generic herb dust. In pyramid tea bags, large cut leaf moves freely and infuses fully, producing a better cup. For loose leaf tea, large cut material photographs beautifully and communicates quality before the customer even brews it.
For loose leaf tea, this large cut peppermint works as a primary ingredient or dominant flavour carrier — its bold menthol character can anchor a blend at 40–60% inclusion without being overwhelmed by other ingredients. For pyramid tea bag production, the large cut format is ideal — use at 1.5–2.5g per pyramid bag for a strong, full-flavoured infusion. For standard flat tea bags, large cut can be used but may benefit from a slight chop or screening to ensure consistent bag fill — contact us to discuss. Brew in hot water at 90–95°C for 4–6 minutes for a full-strength infusion. Contact sales@herbalconnection.com.au for bulk pricing.
Yes — this peppermint is Certified Organic under SCX Certification No. 24041. Organic certification documentation is available on request. The Herbal Connection holds SCX organic certification — not NASAA. Contact sales@herbalconnection.com.au to request certification documentation.
Peppermint's distinctive cooling character comes from volatile menthol oils — and volatile means they dissipate with air, light, and heat exposure. Store in a sealed, airtight container away from light and heat, ideally below 23°C. In a production environment, reseal bags immediately after use. Properly stored, premium peppermint retains its aromatic intensity for 12–24 months. Large cut format retains menthol oils slightly better than fine powder, as greater surface area is exposed in powder form.
