About

Our Pau D'Arco (*Tabebuia impetiginosa*) is the pure, shredded inner bark of the legendary Amazonian trumpet tree. Known indigenously as "Lapacho" or the "Tea of the Incas," this herb has a rich history of use in South American traditional medicine. We source only the **inner bark** (phloem), which is where the active compounds like lapachol and beta-lapachone are concentrated. With a deeply earthy, woody, and slightly tannic flavour, it is widely revered for its antifungal, antiviral, and immune-supporting properties.

As always, it's advisable to consult with healthcare professionals for personalised guidance on health concerns.

Directions of Use

Pau D'Arco is a dense bark, not a delicate leaf. To release its active compounds, it requires sustained heat (Decoction).

1. The Medicinal Decoction: Add 1-2 teaspoons of bark per cup of water into a saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer gently for 20 minutes. Strain and serve.

2. Candida Support Blend: Combine Pau D'Arco with Cinnamon and Clove in the pot. Simmer together to create a potent, warming, antifungal tea.

3. Cooling Wash: Brew a strong batch, let it cool completely, and use it as a topical wash for fungal skin issues or as a foot soak.

4. Nut Milk Chai: Simmer the bark directly in your favourite nut milk (like coconut or almond) with chai spices for a creamy, caffeine-free latte.

Boiling icon

Why do I need to boil it?

Pau D'Arco is a dense, fibrous bark. The beneficial compounds (naphthoquinones) are locked deep within the wood fibres. Pouring hot water over it (infusion) isn't strong enough. You must simmer it for 20 minutes (decoction) to extract the medicine.

Taste icon

What does Pau D'Arco taste like?

It has a distinct earthy, woody, and slightly bitter flavour with mild astringency (tannins). It is often described as grounding. Many people add cinnamon, ginger, or licorice to round out the flavour.

Inner Bark icon

Is this the inner bark?

Yes, absolutely. We source only the "phloem" or inner bark. The outer bark is dead wood and inactive. The inner bark is the living part of the tree where the potent compounds like lapachol reside.

Caffeine free icon

Is it caffeine-free?

Yes, Pau D'Arco is naturally 100% caffeine-free, making it a suitable option for evening consumption or for those sensitive to stimulants.

Candida icon

Can I use it for Candida?

Pau D'Arco is traditionally famous for its anti-fungal properties. Many herbalists recommend it as a supportive tea during Candida cleanses or dietary protocols to help manage yeast overgrowth.

Safety icon

Are there side effects?

In high doses, Pau D'Arco can cause nausea or dizziness. It may also have a blood-thinning effect, so it should be avoided by those on anticoagulant medication or before surgery.
