Orange Peel Sweet Organic — Citrus sinensis, Sweet Orange Cuts

Certified Organic Sweet Orange Peel Cuts (Citrus sinensis) — the dried outer peel of the sweet orange, cut into irregular pieces, sourced from certified organic growers. Citrus sinensis, the common sweet orange, is distinguished from bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) by its sweeter, less resinous peel character — the peel of C. sinensis is warmer, rounder, and more straightforwardly citrus-sweet than the more intense, somewhat bitter character of bitter orange peel. This product is "Sweet Orange Peel" — the standard table orange rather than a specialist bitter variety. The peel is cut rather than ground, making it primarily suited to infusion applications — tea blending, mulling spice mixes, and any preparation where the peel steeps in liquid to release its essential oils and flavour.

The dried sweet orange peel cuts carry a vivid orange colour and characteristically warm, zesty, sweet citrus aroma derived from the essential oils naturally present in the flavedo (outer peel layer). In tea blends, orange peel is one of the most universally used citrus inclusions — it pairs broadly with almost all herbal tea categories, from chamomile to ginger to hibiscus, adding warmth and citrus brightness. It also functions well in mulling spice mixes, potpourri-style botanical blends, marinades, and cooking applications where visible peel pieces are appropriate. 100% organic sweet orange peel, no additives. Freeze-treated. Available 250g to 5kg. This product is sold as a food only.

Orange Peel Sweet Organic — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

In the context of the HC range, there are two orange peel products: Orange Peel Sweet Organic (this product, HTO.ORPSK1) — from Citrus sinensis, the common sweet orange, with a Paraguay/multi-origin supply. Orange Peel Organic (HTO.ORPK1) — also from Citrus sinensis, sourced from India, Albania, and Germany. Both are sweet orange (as opposed to bitter orange, which is C. aurantium). The "Sweet" designation in this product's name emphasises the flavour character — warm, rounded, and pleasantly citrusy without the pronounced bitterness of bitter/Seville orange varieties. Contact us if you need clarification on which product best suits your specific application or if you require documentation for a particular origin.
Tea blending: orange peel is one of the most versatile and universally compatible citrus inclusions in herbal tea blending — it adds warmth, sweetness, and visual appeal (vivid orange pieces) to almost any base: chamomile, ginger, hibiscus, peppermint, rosehip, rooibos, and chai-style blends all benefit from orange peel. Use 5–10% of blend weight as a general starting point. Mulling spice mixes: orange peel is a classic component of mulling spice mixes for wine, cider, and juice alongside cinnamon, cloves, star anise, and cardamom. Infused spirits and liqueurs: steeping in spirits for flavour extraction; a component of many citrus-forward gin and whisky infusion blends. Savoury cooking: add to slow-cooked braises (particularly beef, duck, and lamb), Moroccan-inspired tagines, and French-style daube dishes where the classic orange peel flavour combination is traditional. Baking: rehydrate in warm water and fold into fruit cakes, stollen, and panettone.
The origin listed on the spec table — India, Albania, Germany, Paraguay — reflects that this product is sourced from certified organic supply chains across multiple countries depending on availability, harvest timing, and quality assessment at any given time. Orange peel is harvested seasonally, and different growing regions produce crops at different times of year, meaning multi-origin sourcing provides supply chain resilience and consistent availability. The current batch origin is noted on the CoA (Certificate of Analysis) for each batch and is available on request. If your application requires a specific declared origin for label purposes — for example, if your product must state a country of origin — contact us before ordering to confirm the current batch origin at sales@herbalconnection.com.au.
Both products are made from the same botanical — dried Citrus sinensis peel — but in different formats for different applications. Orange Peel Cuts (this product, HTO.ORPSK1) — irregular pieces of dried peel; suited to infusion applications (tea blending, mulling spice, cooking) where the peel steeps in liquid and the pieces remain visible or are removed; provides visual appeal in tea blends as vivid orange pieces. Orange Peel Powder (organic, also available) — ground fine; suited to applications where invisible integration is needed (baking batters, spice rubs, seasoning blends, marinades) where whole peel pieces would create texture or processing issues. Choose cuts for infusion and visual appeal; choose powder for smooth incorporation.
Store in a sealed, airtight container below 23°C in a cool, dark location. The essential oils in orange peel are volatile and degrade with heat, light, and air exposure — all three reduce the aromatic quality and shelf life of dried citrus peel. A sealed glass jar in a dark cupboard is ideal. Avoid storing near ovens, stovetops, or in warm pantry positions. The vivid orange colour can fade with prolonged light exposure. Under correct storage conditions, dried orange peel retains good quality for 2+ years, though aromatic intensity gradually diminishes over time. For large bulk quantities, storing in smaller sealed portions rather than one large container reduces cumulative air exposure with each access.
The standard sizes listed — 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg — are our regular stocked wholesale pack sizes, but The Herbal Connection is a wholesale supplier and can accommodate bulk orders well beyond these standard sizes. Note this product is currently showing limited availability — contact us to confirm current stock and lead times. Whether you are a tea blender, spice blend producer, food manufacturer, or large-scale buyer with ongoing requirements, we can discuss pricing and supply arrangements. Related products include Orange Peel Organic (HTO.ORPK1) and Organic Orange Peel Powder for buyers requiring different formats.
