Certified Organic Lemon Peel — Citrus limon, India

Certified Organic Lemon Peel (Citrus limon) — the dried outer peel of the lemon, cut into pieces and sourced from certified organic cultivation in India. Lemon peel is one of the most widely used and versatile dried citrus botanicals in tea blending, baking, culinary, and distillery applications — the outer zest layer of the lemon contains a high concentration of aromatic essential oils (predominantly d-limonene and citral) that produce the bright, sharp, intensely citrusy lemon character that distinguishes the peel from lemon juice or flavouring. The certified organic status of this peel is particularly important — as with all dried citrus peel, the outer skin is the part of the fruit most heavily treated with post-harvest fungicides and wax coatings in conventional production, and the peel itself is the ingredient being consumed or infused.

The dried lemon peel cuts have a vivid, dry aromatic lemon character with a clean, sharp citrus scent and the pleasant mild bitterness of the white pith beneath the zest. This combination of bright lemon oil and background bitterness makes dried lemon peel particularly valuable in distillery applications (gin botanicals, limoncello, amaro) and tea blending where the bitterness adds complexity rather than flatness. Certified organic from India. Naturally caffeine-free. Available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk. This product is sold as a food only.

Certified Organic Lemon Peel — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

The outer skin of conventionally grown lemons is routinely treated with post-harvest fungicides — including imazalil, thiabendazole, and orthophenylphenol — applied directly to the skin after harvest to prevent mould during storage and transport. These treatments concentrate on the outer peel surface. When you eat the flesh of a conventional lemon and discard the skin, you avoid these residues; but when the peel itself is the ingredient being steeped in tea, baked with, infused into spirits, or incorporated into food, those residues become part of the product. Certified organic lemon peel is grown and processed without these post-harvest chemical treatments, making it the appropriate choice for any application where the dried peel is directly consumed, infused, or used in food production. This is why certified organic citrus peel consistently commands a premium — the certification provides meaningful assurance that is absent from conventional peel.
Lemon peel is one of the most versatile and popular citrus inclusions in herbal tea blending — its sharp, bright character lifts and brightens any blend it joins. Classic pairings include: Ginger blends — lemon and ginger is one of the most universally appealing tea combinations; the lemon peel's aromatic oils complement ginger's warming heat; Hibiscus blends — lemon's brightness amplifies hibiscus's tartness; Chamomile blends — lemon softens chamomile's mildness and adds a bright counterpoint; Peppermint blends — lemon and peppermint is a classic clean, refreshing pairing; Rooibos blends — citrus notes contrast with rooibos's natural sweetness; Lemon verbena and lemon balm blends — layering multiple lemon-character botanicals creates a complex, full lemon expression. Use lemon peel at 10–25% by weight in most blends. The mild bitterness from the pith adds complexity at higher percentages.
Baking: rehydrate cut pieces briefly in warm water, then chop fine and fold into cakes, muffins, biscuits, shortbread, and bread dough for concentrated lemon flavour. Pairs naturally with poppy seed, almond, vanilla, ginger, and honey. Marinades and sauces: add to chicken, fish, and seafood marinades; include in lemon butter and hollandaise-style sauces; use in vinaigrettes and dressings. Preserved and pickled preparations: use in Moroccan-style preserved lemon preparations; add to pickling brines for a citrus dimension. Syrups and cordials: steep in hot sugar syrup to produce lemon peel syrup for cocktails and beverages. Mulled beverages: include alongside orange peel, cinnamon, and cloves in mulled wine, hot punch, and spiced cider. Infused oils and vinegars: steep in olive oil or white wine vinegar for citrus-flavoured condiments. For fine baking where a smooth texture is required, the Lemon Peel Ground Organic (powder) is also available.
Lemon peel is one of the most widely used botanicals in craft spirits and distillery production. In gin: lemon peel is a near-universal inclusion in gin botanical recipes — it contributes a bright, clean citrus note that complements juniper and adds aromatic lift. Certified organic peel is essential for producers labelling their spirits as organic. Limoncello: limoncello is traditionally produced by macerating lemon peel in high-proof neutral spirit for 1–4 weeks to extract the essential oils, then sweetening with sugar syrup — certified organic peel is important here as the skin's surface compounds are directly extracted into the spirit. Amaro and digestive bitters: lemon peel bitterness from the white pith adds to the bitterness profile alongside other bitters botanicals. Vermouth and aperitivi: citrus peel is a common component in vermouth botanical blends and Italian aperitivo-style spirits.
