Daintree Black Tea — Australian Grown Camellia sinensis

Daintree Black Tea (Camellia sinensis) — one of Australia's most distinctive and genuinely rare teas, grown on the Daintree Tea Company plantation in the wet tropical rainforests of far north Queensland. Australia produces an extraordinarily small quantity of commercially grown tea relative to global supply — making Australian-grown tea a genuine specialty product with strong provenance appeal for consumers and product developers seeking local, traceable origin. The Daintree plantation is situated in one of the world's most biodiverse rainforest ecosystems, and the warm, humid, rainfall-rich conditions of far north Queensland produce a tea with a rich, full-bodied character, a warm aromatic profile, and a rounded, smooth finish.

The plantation is spray-free — no synthetic pesticides are used — making this one of the few commercially grown teas available without pesticide residues. Packaged in biodegradable, food-grade materials. No known allergens. Contains natural caffeine. Available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk.

Daintree Black Tea — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

Australia produces a remarkably small quantity of commercially grown tea. The vast majority of tea consumed in Australia — and globally — is imported from large-scale production regions in China, India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Japan. Australian-grown tea is produced on a handful of small plantations in the suitable growing regions of far north Queensland and parts of northern New South Wales, making it a genuine specialty product with traceable, local provenance. The Daintree Tea Company plantation operates in one of the most environmentally significant rainforest ecosystems on earth — the Daintree, which is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area — giving the tea a genuinely extraordinary sense of place and origin that no imported tea can replicate.
Daintree Black Tea is characterised by a rich, full-bodied, well-rounded character with a warm, aromatic profile and a smooth, relatively soft finish. The flavour sits at medium strength — assertive without being astringent or harsh, with a natural warmth that reflects the tropical conditions in which it grows. It takes milk well, works beautifully as a straight black tea, and makes an excellent iced tea. The rounded softness distinguishes it from the brisker, more tannic character of some high-grown Ceylon and Darjeeling teas, giving it broad appeal across different palate preferences.
Spray-free means the Daintree Tea Company plantation does not use synthetic pesticide sprays in its tea production. This is significant because tea leaves — particularly those processed as whole or broken leaf — can retain pesticide residues from conventional growing practices, and many imported teas test positive for multiple residue compounds. Spray-free status means the tea is grown without those inputs, resulting in a cleaner product without synthetic residues. Note that spray-free is distinct from certified organic — it refers specifically to the absence of synthetic spray applications rather than a full certified organic production system.
Use 1 teaspoon (2–3g) per cup of freshly boiled water (100°C). Steep for 3–5 minutes depending on preferred strength — 3 minutes produces a lighter, more aromatic cup; 5 minutes delivers fuller body and depth. Remove the leaves and enjoy black, or add milk and sweetener to taste. For iced tea, brew at double strength, allow to cool, and pour over ice with a slice of lemon or fresh mint. Daintree Black Tea also works well cold-brewed overnight in the refrigerator for a smooth, low-bitterness concentrate.
