Dried Ground Dates Powder — Phoenix dactylifera, 100% Pure

Dried Ground Dates Powder (Phoenix dactylifera) — whole dried dates ground to a fine powder, with nothing added. 100% dates: no additives, no artificial sweeteners, no carriers or fillers. Phoenix dactylifera, the date palm, produces one of the oldest cultivated fruits in human history, with a cultivation record extending over 5,000 years across the Middle East and North Africa. The date fruit is composed almost entirely of natural sugars — predominantly fructose and glucose — concentrated through drying to produce a powder with an exceptionally intense, rich sweetness and a characteristic deep caramel-toffee, honey-like flavour complex. The powder format makes this concentrated sweetness available in an immediately dispersible, easy-to-measure form.

Date powder is the most intensely sweet of the common dried fruit powders, with approximately 66g of natural sugars per 100g — making it effective as a natural sweetener substitute in small quantities. Its flavour is distinctly richer and more complex than refined sugar: deep caramel, toffee, and molasses notes with a subtle fruity warmth that adds character to baked goods, smoothies, energy balls, and functional food blends. It is a well-established clean-label ingredient in the natural food manufacturing sector. No added sugar, no additives. Available in 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg bulk. This product is sold as a food only.

Dried Ground Dates Powder — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

Date powder is made from whole dried dates ground to a fine powder — the same fruit, just in a completely different format. Diced Dates (FR.DDK1) — physical pieces of dried date; used where visible fruit texture and pieces are desired in the finished product (baking, energy balls, muesli). The pieces provide textural contrast and visible fruit. Dried Ground Dates Powder (this product, HT.DATPK1) — fine powder; fully dispersible in liquid applications and invisible in batters; used where even sweetness distribution is needed without visible date pieces. The powder is more concentrated per unit volume than diced dates and integrates smoothly into smoothies, powder blends, and baking applications requiring a homogeneous mix. Both products are 100% dates with no additives.
Natural sweetener substitute: replace refined sugar partially or fully in baking formulations where the date's characteristic caramel-toffee flavour is a positive addition — chocolate cakes, muffins, cookies, and banana bread respond particularly well; the flavour complements rather than competes. Smoothies and shakes: add 1–2 teaspoons per serve to smoothies, protein shakes, and functional beverage powders for natural sweetness with depth and complexity that refined sugar cannot provide. Energy balls and bars: blend with oats, nut butter, cacao, and seeds for no-bake energy ball bases — date powder distributes evenly through the mix and helps bind ingredients. Functional food manufacturing: use as a clean-label natural sweetener in health bars, granola formulations, and functional powder blends where ingredient list simplicity is a requirement. Porridge and breakfast: stir into porridge, overnight oats, and chia puddings. Hot beverages: dissolve into warm plant-based milks for a natural date-sweetened latte base.
Date powder is among the most intensely sweet of the common dried fruit powders at approximately 66g sugars per 100g. Compared to other fruit powders in the HC range: Date Powder (this product) — richest, most intensely sweet; deep caramel-toffee-honey character; dark colour (adds darkness to finished products). Fig Powder (FRFIGPK1) — slightly less sweet; milder caramel-honey character; lighter colour. Prune Powder (FRPRUPK1) — sweet-tart rather than purely sweet; deepest, darkest colour; strong character suits chocolate and spiced applications. Date powder is the closest to a refined sugar substitute in terms of sweetness intensity among these options, though it always adds the characteristic date flavour alongside sweetness — unlike refined sugar, it cannot provide purely neutral sweetness.
Date powder can substitute refined sugar in most baking applications as a 1:1 volume replacement as a starting point, though adjustments may be needed. Key considerations: Colour — date powder is a medium-brown colour and will darken the finished product noticeably; this is generally a positive in chocolate, spiced, and caramel-flavoured baking. Moisture — date powder has a slightly higher moisture-binding capacity than refined sugar; finished products may be slightly denser and moister, which is often desirable. Flavour — date powder always adds caramel-toffee character alongside sweetness; it is not a neutral substitute. Dissolution — date powder is highly soluble in liquid but does not dissolve as cleanly as refined sugar in dry applications; ensure thorough mixing. Start with a 1:1 replacement, taste the batter, and adjust sweetness upward if needed given that date powder's perceived sweetness can vary slightly between applications.
Date powder is highly hygroscopic — its very high natural sugar content causes it to absorb moisture from the air aggressively, leading to clumping, caking, and eventual hardening into a solid mass if stored poorly. Store in a sealed, airtight container below 23°C in a cool, dark, dry location. Minimise air exposure each time the container is opened — take what is needed and reseal immediately. In humid environments (particularly Queensland's summer months), a food-safe silica gel desiccant sachet inside the storage container significantly slows moisture uptake. Clumped powder can generally be broken apart by hand or with a food processor blade without quality loss; if mould growth or off-odour is present, discard. For large bulk quantities, storing in smaller airtight sub-portions rather than one large container reduces cumulative moisture exposure. Refrigeration is acceptable for extended storage; allow to come to room temperature in a sealed container before opening.
The standard sizes listed — 250g, 500g, 1kg, and 5kg — are our regular stocked wholesale pack sizes, but The Herbal Connection is a wholesale supplier and can accommodate bulk orders well beyond these standard sizes. Whether you are a functional food manufacturer, health bar producer, bakery, smoothie brand, or large-scale buyer with ongoing requirements, we can discuss pricing and supply arrangements.
