Certified Organic Calendula Petals — Calendula officinalis

Certified Organic Calendula Petals (Calendula officinalis) — whole dried petals of the pot marigold, one of the most versatile and widely used botanical flowers across culinary, tea, and natural cosmetic applications. Calendula officinalis is a warm-season annual native to the Mediterranean and Central Asia, cultivated for thousands of years for its vivid golden-to-deep-orange flowers and broad range of applications. The dried petals are characterised by their rich golden-orange colour — produced by carotenoid pigments including lutein and beta-carotene — a mildly earthy, slightly spicy-floral flavour, and a long history of use in cooking, tea, and topical formulations.

Calendula petals are one of the most popular botanical inclusions in premium herbal tea blends, valued for their vivid colour, visual appeal, and mild character that complements without overpowering other tea ingredients. They are also one of the most commonly used botanicals in natural and organic skincare formulation. Certified organic. Naturally caffeine-free. Available in 250g, 500g, and 5kg bulk. This product is sold as a food only.

⚠ Safety Notes: Calendula belongs to the Asteraceae (Compositae) family — individuals with known allergies to plants in this family (including ragweed, chrysanthemums, daisies, and related plants) may experience allergic reactions. Not recommended during pregnancy. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have known plant allergies. This product is sold as a food only and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Organic Calendula Petals — FAQs

Everything you need to know before you order.

Calendula petals have a broad range of applications across food, tea, and cosmetics. Tea blending: one of the most popular botanical inclusions in premium herbal tea blends — the vivid golden-orange petals provide warm colour against the dry blend and steep to a gentle golden hue, contributing a mild, slightly earthy flavour note. They pair well with chamomile, lemon balm, rose, and hibiscus in floral and wellness blends. Culinary: scatter over salads, rice dishes, soups, and egg dishes as an edible garnish; fold into butter and soft cheese for golden colour; use as an edible cake and dessert decoration. Historically used as a natural yellow food colourant — sometimes called "poor man's saffron" for its colour-giving properties in dairy and baking, though with a distinctly different flavour. Cosmetics: one of the most widely used botanicals in natural skincare formulation — for infused oils, salves, creams, soaps, and botanical extracts where its carotenoid pigments and traditional applications are leveraged.
Calendula petals have a mild, slightly earthy, faintly bitter flavour with a subtle spicy-floral undertone. The flavour is gentle and does not dominate — in tea blends it plays a background supporting role, contributing a soft warmth without competing with more assertive ingredients like hibiscus or peppermint. In culinary applications the flavour contribution is similarly subtle — the petals are primarily used for their colour and visual appeal, though they add a mild botanical character to dishes where they are used in quantity. The flavour is broadly similar to a very mild chamomile with a hint of bitterness.
Yes — certified organic calendula petals are widely used in natural and organic cosmetic formulation. Common applications include infused oils (macerate petals in a carrier oil such as sunflower or jojoba over 4–6 weeks in sunlight, or use a warm extraction method), which can be used directly in balms, salves, and body oils or as a base for further formulation. The certified organic status of this product makes it suitable for use in certified organic cosmetic formulations where ingredient certification is required. Note the Asteraceae allergy caution — some individuals with plant allergies may also be sensitive to topical applications of calendula; this should be factored into product labelling and consumer communication.
Calendula belongs to the Asteraceae (Compositae) family — one of the largest plant families, which includes ragweed (Ambrosia), chrysanthemums, daisies, chamomile, echinacea, and arnica. Some individuals with known sensitivities to plants in this family may also react to calendula through cross-reactivity — either through consumption or topical application. Reactions can range from mild skin irritation or hay fever-type symptoms to more significant allergic responses in highly sensitised individuals. People with known ragweed allergy or Asteraceae sensitivity should exercise caution with calendula products and consult a healthcare professional before use. Not recommended during pregnancy.
Yes — Certified Organic Calendula (Marigold) Flowers Powder is available separately in the HC range. The powder format is more convenient for cosmetic formulation, baking, and applications where fine, even dispersion is needed. The whole petals listed here are the preferred format for tea blending, culinary garnish, and infused oil production where the petal structure is functionally or visually important. An Orange Marigold Calendula Petals Organic version is also available for applications where the more intensely orange petal colour is preferred.
Certified Organic Calendula Petals are available in 250g, 500g, and 5kg bulk packs. Note: the 1kg size is not currently available for this SKU — the next bulk size from 500g is the 5kg.
